Abstract
although gastrectomy is now performed less frequently for beingn ulcer disease since the advent of H2-receptor antagonists, significant numbers of patients with carcinoma of the gastric stump continue to present because it usually takes more than
20
years for the tumor to develop.
Symptoms of gastric stump cancer are vague and diagnosis is often delayed because they resemble recurrent ulceration.
At present there is considerable interest in the improved survival rates by the increased surveillance of gastrectomized patients and the use of radical gastrectomy.
Recently we expreienced two cases of gastric stump cancer with good results. This report summarizes our experience and review of the literatures to remind the importance of careful surveillance in gastrectomized pateitns for peptic ulcer disease.
